Federal Register Notice (pdf)

The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980 requires a comprehensive conservation plan for all refuges in Alaska. The current plan for Selawik Refuge was completed in 1987.  We have scheduled the process to revise and update this important management plan to begin Fall 2008.

The newly formed Selawik Planning Team met in Kotzebue this September to officially kick off the two-year process that will be used to revise the plan.
Representatives from the State of Alaska and the Northwest Arctic Borough are working together with Refuge staff and regional planners on the nine-person team.

The new plan will provide direction for managing the Refuge for the next 15-20 years.  We are in the early public scoping phase of the project.  We are working with stakeholders to identify the key issues that will drive the planning process.  If you would like to provide input about issues at Selawik Refuge, please email your comments to Selawik_planning@fws.gov or call Jeffrey Brooks, Planning Team Leader, (907) 786-3839.  We are accepting scoping comments through January 15, 2009.
